The 40min scenic crossing of Kootenay Lake from Balfour to Crawford Bay is the longest free ferry ride in the world.

38/365 Mon June 21

ROAD TRIP! A ground squirrel in Manning Park is examining someone's perfectly manicured hand.

9k west of Osoyoos on Hwy 3 is Klikuk where you will find a rare natural phenomenon in the form of Spotted Lake. The lake contains the world's highest concentrations of minerals including magnesium sulfate (epsom salts), calcium and sodium suphates. Cool looking lake!
And along the way we amused ourselves by posting Kaslo Jazz Etc Festival posters on every bulletin board between home and Kaslo.

37/365 Sun June 20

Father's Day. Worked in the yard and went out for dinner. No pictures of that either.

34/365 Thurs June 17

The last school day and graduation day for the day class. Half of my class is moving on and I am going to miss them all. It's been a great year and we have all learned from each other.

33/365 Wed June 16

Our field trip to the 1910 Stave Lake Power Station.

Downtown Chilliwack was transformed into the fictional town of EUReKA for an American scifi tv show. The set is open and stores are open for business.

32/365 Tues Jun 15

The penultimate day with the evening class. Tonight was graduation and Thursday will be pot luck and bowling. The count down to summer break begins.

31/365 Mon Jun 14

I can see that I'm drawn to taking pictures of animals, so I thought I would shake it up and take a picture of some reptiles. No, they are not amphibians. Turtles lay eggs and don't normally live on land. These turtles live in the middle of Chilliwack. They are probably ancestors of the cute little turtles from my childhood. You could buy them at Buckerfields and when they got too big people would let them loose in local lakes.

I love going barefoot! It's a sunny day today so the shoes are staying in the closet. My feet like rain and snow too, but they love the sun. I pretty sure this drives Dave crazy, but after 40 years he has come to accept my idiosycrasies.

28/365 Fri Jun 11

I needed dirt, my son just got a load of topsoil so I took it. Now I don't have to buy any. Good deal for me.

27/365 Thurs June 10

The cows are back again this year. We usually have horses across the street, but once a year the cows visit while they dry up before they have a calf.

26/365 Wed June 9

The clematis is taking over.

25/365 Tues June 8

I would like to introduce you to our newest garden pets. This is a mason bee house.
Inside the little house are tubes which are now full of bee babies.
Mason bees improve pollination in the garden and do not produce honey. The male bee is at the front of the tube and the female at the back. Once the male emerges he waits for the female to mate. The female collects pollen and nectar. She backs into the tube and deposits the pollen and an egg. She then seals the cell with mud and continues the process over and over. The larva consumes the pollen/nectar provision before it emerges. At least I think that is how it goes.

1 cup of sugar
Combine water and sugar. Bring to a boil. Store in the refrigerator. Clean the feeder often.

23/365 Sun June 6

What do you do on a Sunday when someone has to clear out an office? You take a trailer and bring home 9 filing cabinets.

22/365 Sat June 5

Someone on the commune got a new car and it isn't me. The new garage is going up to house it.

Putting my life on pause for some music

And now for a musical interlude with Ben Harper and Vanessa da Mata.

21/365 Fri Jun 4

This is the book I'm reading right now. It's the fifth in the Outlander series. I have the sixth and have been scouring thrift shops for the last one "Echo in the Bone". I may have to borrow it from the library, but then I won't be able to send it on to the readers group in Kaslo. I will not pay full price and looking for bargains in thrift shops is my hobby. Thrill of the hunt I guess.

20/365 Thur Jun 3

Testing day today followed by a long marking weekend.

19/365 Wed June 2

Grandma day today and an infrequent outing away from the care home. No, she's not mad. It's just her sunny disposition showing through.

18/365 Tues Jun 1

The attendees at this chicken funeral seem more interested in the worms than their fallen sister.

17/365 Mon May 31

Back to class.

16/365 Sun May 30

It's been a long time but we have eggs! Nothing better than fresh eggs for breakfast.

15/365 Sat May 29

The poppies are blooming and they remind me of Monet's Garden. Not Monet's, Bonet's garden.

14/365 Fri May 28

Wild roses! That will do it!! The air is full of the fragrance. Mmmmmm

13/365 Thurs May 27
